A Multi-Region Wildlife Expedition with AfricaBig5Safaris & Tours

Experience the full spectrum of the African wilderness on this cross-park journey in the Kruger National Park. While most tourists stay in one area, AfricaBig5Safaris & Tours takes you across three distinct eco-zones. From the predator-rich south to the elephant-heavy north, this 4-day odyssey offers the most comprehensive wildlife experience available.

Where You Will Stay: Authentic Park Chalets

On this journey, you will stay in authentic, comfortable chalets at three legendary camps. Each chalet offers a rustic yet cozy atmosphere, reflecting the traditional spirit of the Kruger.

  1. Night 1: Skukuza Rest Camp (The Capital): Stay in a charming chalet on the banks of the Sabie River. Skukuza features a world-class Cattle Baron Grill & Bistro, perfect for a hearty steak or a river-view dinner after your first night drive.
  2. Night 2: Olifants Rest Camp (The View): Perched high on a rocky ridge, these chalets offer proximity to the parkโ€™s most famous lookout. The Mugg & Bean restaurant here provides a panoramic deck where you can enjoy coffee and meals while scanning the river below for elephants.
  3. Night 3: Shingwedzi Rest Camp (The Wild North): These chalets are nestled in the remote, peaceful northern plains. The Shingwedzi Restaurant offers a relaxed, bush-style dining experience, perfect for refuelling after a day in “Big Tusker” territory.

How the Adventure Unfolds

  • Day 1: Southern Thickets & The Night Hunt. After a morning pickup in Johannesburg, we enter the park and head to Skukuza. After checking into your chalet, youโ€™ll board the SANParks Night Drive vehicle for a nocturnal safari to track predators on the move.
  • Day 2: The Great Migration North. As we travel toward Olifants, we stop at scenic picnic spots like Tshokwane or Kumana. These spots are the perfect place to enjoy a packed lunch while birds and small wildlife move around the clearing.
  • Day 3: Dawn Patrol & River Loops. We start with an early morning drive to catch the sunrise over the Olifants River. As we push north toward Shingwedzi, weโ€™ll stop for lunch at the Mopani picnic site, overlooking the Pioneer Dam. That evening, youโ€™ll head out on your second night drive to explore the northern wilderness.
  • Day 4: The Northern Exit. One final morning game drive through the Mopani forests as we head toward the Phalaborwa Gate. From here, we begin our scenic journey back to Johannesburg, arriving in the evening.

5 Tour Highlights

  • Trans-Kruger Route: A rare journey covering hundreds of kilometres from the Southern Sabie region to the Northern Mopani veld.
  • Two Iconic Night Safaris: Double your chances of seeing leopards and lions in action with two separate night drives.
  • Lunch with a View: Enjoy midday breaks at famous picnic spots like Tshokwane, where the “bush vibes” are at their best.
  • Stay in Historic Chalets: Experience the park the right way, staying inside the secure, fenced perimeters of the most iconic camps.
  • Phalaborwa Gate Exit: A scenic return route that showcases the changing landscapes of the Limpopo province.

The Expedition Packing List & Essentials

1. Clothing & Layers

  • Neutral Colors: Wear khaki, tan, or olive green.
  • Layering is Key: Bring light t-shirts for the day and a heavy windproof jacket for the night and morning drives in the open safari vehicle.
  • Swimwear: All three camps have poolsโ€”perfect for the midday heat between game drives!

2. Kruger “Must-Dos”

  • Dine on the Deck: Make sure to have a meal at the Olifants restaurant deck; the view of the river below is life-changing.
  • Stretch your legs: Utilize the fenced picnic spots along our route. It is a great chance to enjoy the fresh air and hear the birds away from the vehicle engine.

3. Kruger “Don’ts”

  • โŒ NEVER Disembark: You must remain in the vehicle unless we are at a designated picnic spot or rest camp.
  • โŒ No Littering: Please keep all trash in the vehicle until we reach a camp bin.
  • โŒ Don’t Feed the Animals: Especially the monkeys at the picnic spots; they can become aggressive if they expect food.

Short on time? If you canโ€™t join us for the full 4-day expedition, check out our [Authentic 2-Day Kruger National Park Safari] for a high-impact, 48-hour wildlife escape.”

Q: Why do we stay in three different camps?

A: Each camp is in a different “eco-zone.” Skukuza is lush and predator-heavy; Olifants is rocky with river views; Shingwedzi is wild and remote. Moving camps ensures you see the whole Kruger, not just one corner.

Q: What is a night drive like?

A: You join a professional SANParks ranger in a specialized Kruger Park safari vehicle. Powerful spotlights are used to find “eye-shine” from nocturnal animals like leopards, owls, and honey badgers.

Q: Is the road back from Phalaborwa long?

A: It is a full day of travel, but highly scenic. We make comfortable stops for lunch and stretches, arriving in Johannesburg by early evening.

Alรฉm disso, os funcionรกrios do parque sรฃo nota 10: extremamente educados, prestativos e atenciosos. Jรก pretendemos voltar em breve! Um grande abraรงo do Brasil! ๐Ÿ‡ง๐Ÿ‡ท

Increible. Estar en medio de la naturaleza en su estado original (bueno un poco manipulada por el hombre aunque solo sea por las carreteras)
